I just caught the end of Blue Peter while waiting for Neighbours to start. They have Neil Malarkey on and he was going to show us all ‘a fun game to play with our friends’. All the presenters lined up, Neil gave them a story title and he took turns to point at them. When pointed at the presenter had to continue the story. The next game was again a ‘make up a story’ one bu the presenters had to say one word each given another title.
Those of you who do improv with me will immediately recognise this as ‘The Story Game’ and ‘Chinese Whispers’. Not only was I chuffed at this somehow being entertaining enough to be on telly but it was fun to note that the Blue Peter presenters did the exact same mistakes all improv newbies make; one just went ‘er…..’ when pointed to, one shouted a word during Chinese Whispers and then said ‘Oh no! I’ve done that already… er…’ and the pointy story game meandered into a sea of enhancement and no advancement.
It was a big of a ‘massage Rich’s ego’ moment because, for a short time, I felt myself to be nearer the skill level of the professional demonstrating than the presenters presenting. Admittedly this isn’t terribly amazing given it is Blue Peter but it was nice anyway :).
